Montclair, located just 12 miles from the Lincoln Tunnel, is what you can call an “urban suburb,” where a plethora of restaurants, four shopping districts, several movie theaters, public skating rinks, three town pools, numerous cultural events and 38,000 residents are found. Many creative professionals who work in New York City live in Montclair, as well as families who appreciate good schools, beautiful parks and heavenly gardens. Montclair has it all: from its distinguished art museum to its well-respected state university campus, residents enjoy everything this town has to offer. It is so fantastic, that in 2009, Forbes named it one of the “Ten Best Suburbs to Sell a Home” in the country. This 6.16 square-mile town is known not only for its recreational activities, but also for its spectacular housing inventory. Ranging from $400,000 to $4,000,000, the majority of homes were constructed between 1875 and 1940, while some neighborhoods - including Yantacaw, Fairway and Fieldstone - were built between the 1940s to the 1980s.

Schools
Introduced in 1977 as a desegregation program, Montclair uses a unique “magnet system” within their school system which racially balances their classes and gives parents the opportunity to decide which school to enroll their child. Because one school puts emphasis on arts and sciences, another on technology and another on visual and performing arts, students attend the school which best meets their needs. Parents are eager to send their children to Montclair High School where nearly 90 percent of its graduates attend college. In fact, a number of Montclair High School’s seniors attend prestigious universities including Harvard, Princeton and Yale. Montclair is also home to the well-respected Montclair State University where over 250 undergraduate majors, minors and concentrations are available to its students as well as graduate programs in virtually 100 fields of study. There are seven elementary schools, three middle schools and one high school in the Montclair Public School System. They are as follows:
-
Elementary Schools (grades K-5): Bradford, Edgemont, Hillside, Nishuane, Rand (grades K-2), Northeast, Watchung
